5th Annual Longest Night Candlelight Vigil

Join us in offering light and hope for survivors at our 5th annual candlelight vigil, starting on the longest night of the year, December 21st. We will stand for survivor freedom with a continuous candlelight vigil outside from sunset (5:00 pm) to midnight (7 hours per night), one hour for every $1,000 raised. We do this to raise awareness about the conditions survivors must endure at night - or be sold in order to have a warm place to stay.

We know the holidays are a busy time of year, so this year we opted to hold the vigil over multiple nights (rather than a long overnight stand) so more people are able to participate. We’ve set an ambitious goal of $60,000 - that’s 60 hours for this community to honor survivors through this important action. We know how much it means to them - please come be a part of it.

Generous donors will match the first $15,000 raised - every dollar given helps unlock this match! Our first target is to reach 5 nights - December 21, 22, 23, 24, & 29th, which will mark 35 hours. Each night, we will gather at 4:45 pm for survivors to light the first candles at 5:00 pm at 933 S. Saddle Creek (the back of our building). We hope to build momentum to carry us into January, Human Trafficking Awareness Month - to do so, we need your support.

Our graduates and residents, who serve as our hospitality hosts, invite you to shine your light with us in person during the vigil - please volunteer via this link, or contact events@magdaleneomaha.org with questions. Last year, over 70 volunteers helped us to hold candles outside for almost 70 hours, a very strong show of community support for survivors as they embark on their healing journeys. You do not have to be outside for an entire hour - do whatever you can, and chairs are available by the fire outside. Inside, we have an educational exhibit as well as community activities, and of course food and warm beverages provided by our hospitality hosts!
